TIVA 2008 "DWELLING PLACE"
The first "Taiwan International Video Art Exhibition" at the Hong-Gah Museum is titled the "Dwelling Place", and the focus is based on the reactions to the current unstable situations around the globe, in particular to the state of fear and restlessness due to the international economic crisis. The exhibition uses the most fundamental unit in people's daily lives, the "home", as a starting point to contemplate about the modern day condition and to offer the observers a further step in speculating the complex issues about dwelling places that have extended from "homes". The artists have looked into various issues about dwelling places, and some of the works deal with the meaning of self existence, spiritual states, spatial concepts within the cyber world, the search for memories of the family and the land, concerns for the minorities in the society, humorous fantasies about the city, natural disasters, the urban dwellings under consumerism, terrorism, diasporas, etc... Through these artworks, the purpose is to kindle more diverse thoughts and deeper understandings toward the current state of the world.
